I read a news headline on the BBC’s website that caught my attention this afternoon. As it turns out the headline was about a person living near my hometown who really hit the domain jackpot. Way back in 1994, Chris Clark purchased a domain name that he thought he’d be using to aquire some business for his consulting firm. He sold the consulting business in 2000 but held on to the domain name until now. What a great decision because that domain name was pizza.com.

After seeing some other domain names sell for as much as $3M, he decided that he’d try his luck at auctioning it off. The result was a huge $2.6M dollar payday.

Just thought i’d extend a congratulations to Chris Clark and provide you with a great story of a domain name investment generating above average returns. Although it is uncommon, and extremely difficult to get a name like pizza.com these days, it serves as a reminder that the investments you make today, can pay off huge rewards if you exhibit sufficient patience. That holds true especially when we talk about writing on your blogs, or building your affiliate business–patience can conquer all.

After much debate over whether i would give adbrite a try, I have gone ahead and implemented some code that will feed adbrite ads to this blog. I am not too sure how they will work over the long-run, or whether the in-between page style ads will simply annoy you while you are navigating the site but after reading much about the adbrite network I figured i’d give it a shot. I am running the ads almost exclusively as in-between page ads but may change it up if I think they are hurting more than helping. Would be interested to see what you think about the adbrite implementation that I have as of right now.

Well it certainly took long enough. eBay is making what is expected to be an important move to boost, or at least support, profits while the economy slows.  In short, eBay will now move the 100,000+ eBay affiliates which earn income by helping the site generate sales, under an eBay-administered affiliate program. This is in contrast to what they have done in the past, which was to rely on ValueClick to handle the programs administration. That relationship has had an effect on eBay earnings and the company is now hoping to get a few extra dollars per transaction by moving it under the eBay umbrella.

What this also will do, is create a lot of work for all the eBay affiliates out there. As of May 1st, all eBay affiliates will have to update their affiliate links in order to be credited with affiliate sales.  Also note that this will not affect any of the other eBay properties like StubHub which up to this point are going to still use Commission Junction for their affiliate program administration.
